There’s a lot I wish I was better at.
But to pick one thing in particular, I wish I was better at practical skills. It probably stems from how I feel about them.
It’s a combination of them boring me, meaning Iβm not interested in them, which then leads to me not learning enough to be confident in them.
Need to put a piece of furniture together? I might do it if pushed, but it will take time, and I might mess it up.
A practical problem that needs a quick, pragmatic solution? Sorry, it will take time and… I might mess it up.
Mental arithmetic? At least I’m not a Maths hater anymore, but I’m not the quickest, and (you know what’s coming, don’t you?) I might mess up!
You might think I’m just scared of messing up. But not exactly. I just might be at odds with the concept of adulting, doing boring things π«£

But do you want me to write a song? Give me 15 minutes. A short story? Half an hour. Anything creative? I’ll happily have a crack at it. To be fair, I still might mess up, but it won’t stop me. And even if I do mess up, chances are I’ll thoroughly enjoy the process, won’t notice the time passing and not even care that I messed up until someone points it out.
Perhaps there’s a lesson in that. I don’t know, what do you reckon? π
