Where did my love for fall, or as we call it on this side of the pond, autumn, come from? Let me tell you the story..
I often joke that if I weren’t a christian, I’d be a sun worshipper. The sun has such an impact on me! It enhances the beauty around me, lifts my mood and I’m usually in better health when it’s been shining consistently. It’s no wonder, really. I grew up in the Caribbean where the sun is a constant companion.
Then I landed on British soil. For a time, summer was my favourite season. It reminded me of my tropical home with its sun-drenched days. But then I discovered autumn.
You see, in the tropics, there are only two seasons: the dry season and the rainy season. The variety of the temperate climate was new to me (I briefly experienced it as a toddler living in France, but I have barely any memory of that).
The spectacle that autumn offers to the senses made me slowly but surely prefer it even over summer. The vibrant colours, the crisp air – it all captivated me.
Autumn has become a source of inspiration. It sparks my imagination and switches my reflective mode on. During this season, creativity feels almost effortless.
“If a year was tucked inside of a clock, then autumn would be the magic hour.”
Victoria Erickson
As I write this, autumn is here again. I expect I’ll come up with a lot of new ideas. The challenge will be finding the time to pursue them all!
Stay tuned!
